Hot Potato

Patriarchal system runs deep in Chinese traditional households, my family included, with a strong preference for son(s). The intersection of multigenerational and geographic influences has impacted the patrilineal and gender values greatly. Through my experiences as the eldest child and a daughter, the sense of parent-child hierarchy falls rather linear to the presence of seniority patriarchy that has challenged gender-based patriarchy over the years.
