The garments are made from denim chosen as a tribute to my mother who works as a garment worker ever since we first immigrated to the United States. Alongside the large bag which is commonly used by Asian immigrants this piece references my mother’s history of being a garment worker and the garment industry as a whole, which requires long hours and little pay but is dominated by Asian immigrant women as their main source of income.
